The Cottage, And The Website.
The honest headline: the cottage is not step-free and cannot be made so. The website is built to WCAG 2.2 AA and we will fix anything that falls short.

Getting Into The Cottage
There are about thirty steps between the parking area and the front door — ten down to the driveway, then twenty more down to the beach. There is no alternative route, no lift, and no way to drive closer. Everything you bring comes down them, and goes back up at the end.
Inside, the cottage is on one level. The bathroom has a walk-in shower with a low threshold rather than a bath. Doorways and the layout are those of a 1950s lake cottage and have not been widened.
The dock is reached across a shore terrace of shale and gravel, which is uneven underfoot.
If steps are difficult for anyone in your group, this is the wrong property, and we would much rather say so now than have you arrive and discover it. There is no step-free house on this stretch of shoreline, ours very much included, and we would be doing you no favours by implying otherwise.
If you are unsure, write to us and describe what you need. We will tell you honestly whether it works, including when the answer is no.
This Website
Built to meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA. Specifically:
- Every text and background pairing has been measured for contrast, not eyeballed. All clear AA.
- Everything works by keyboard, including the photo viewer, the menu and the date picker. Focus is always visible and never removed.
- The photo viewer traps focus while open, closes on Escape, moves with the arrow keys, and returns focus to the photograph you opened.
- Every photograph has alt text written by someone who looked at it, not generated from a filename.
- Questions use native browser controls, so your own find-in-page still works.
- Dates use your device’s own date picker, which is more familiar and more accessible than anything we would build.
- Every control is at least 48 pixels — comfortable on a phone, and easier for anyone with limited dexterity.
- Animation respects your reduced-motion setting.
- The site works without JavaScript for reading, though booking needs it.
Where We Know We Fall Short
The payment page is run by our reservation provider, not by us. We have tested the journey up to it; we do not control that page and cannot promise it meets the same standard.
We have tested with keyboard navigation and automated checks. We have not yet had the site tested by someone who uses a screen reader daily, which is the test that actually counts. If you use one and something here is wrong, we would genuinely like to know.
